In summary.

  1. Avril Levings
  2. Mother
  3. Spent in total: 10 hours on media through out the week
  4. Used it mostly for business use, i e checking emails and answering them
  5. Used media mostly in the bedroom as computer is in there

  1. Felicia Morris-Levings
  2. Me
  3. Spent in total: 11 hours on media during the week
  4. Used it mostly for the social side, chatting to friends and things on Facebook
  5. Mostly used in the lounge room, either on phone or watching TV

Summary is that we both had very similar usages to media during our week that we kept our log.
Ended up with me just having one more hour on media than my mum.
Avril, she was using it a lot this particular week with getting emails and everything ready for her dance school to start back up easily and care free for term 4, so her usage was alot by business things.
Me, I was on my iPhone a lot, I guess because it is so easy to get onto, it is really always in my hands so if i get a notification, it will come up and tell me so from there i would spend alot of time on that social media site that gave me it.
My hypothesis was nearly spot on, I thought we would of actually used more media than we did tho but everything else was similar.
We had mostly similar things to each other as in where we used media and how much hours were spent and so on, and we didn't really have that much for differences, "like mother like daughter" My mum's reaction when I told her that :)
This research is actually good to look at and see how much time we spend on media, Back when my mum was little they didn't have any of this!

Patterns of Media interaction between Avril and I

A pattern I have noticed is that we are using media for different reasons, but also for similar.
My mum uses her Computers for more business side of things, like sending emails, and doing invoices and things like that you need to do when you are the owner of a big dance studio. As appose to me, I use my computer for Facebook mostly, but also checking sites like Pinterest and online shopping places too, and then like listening to music and things through iTunes. A reason i think for this is because my mum does own a business so she does need to be organised in what she does, and for me, well i just love to online shop and check Facebook and things.. very social :)
And a similar pattern for the reasoning is for TV, we both watch basically only our favourite TV shows and that is basically about it!
Another is like how much time we spend on it, we basically did the same amount of hours using media through out that week, it was me 11 hours in total and mum 10 hours in total. Examples are we both used the same amount in the kitchen of our house and then we used nearly the same in both the bedrooms and dance studio.

Differences and similarties in Media consumption of Avril and I

A similarity I noticed when going over both of our logs was that we both sort of used some type of media at the same time. Our most used time for week days was 9pm-11pm because that is when we both finish/leave dancing so we both come home and either use our phones, or our Mac books. And in the weekend it was more at night time too, I think it may have been because we left the house and did other stuff during the day so that's why we used it more in the PM.
A difference is I use most of my media usage times on apps like Facebook Instagram and Snapchat, where as mum uses most of hers relating to business sort of things like checking and replying to emails, and chatting on the phone to dance mums and things.
We both have and use quite often a Instagram, I probably use my Instagram account more then hers, Mums Instagram is a dance school one and it is used to show off and promote our dance studio, where as mine is just one for me where i like to post photos of me and friends or some dancing photos.
We both use Facebook for similar reasons, to keep in contact with friends and family, too update status and post photos, and to like and comment and see what other people are doing on Facebook.
My mum on Facebook talks more to dance mums on chat, where as I talk to my school and dance friends.
Another difference I noticed was of course my mum being at dancing or too busy to watch TV, where are I was at dancing too but I would recorded it on My Sky so I could watch it at home, My mum isn't really a big fan of TV and that was evident in her log, as I only saw her post TV on it once which was when she was watching Greys anatomy.
Another similarity was we both used our bedrooms quite a lot when we were using media, quote from Avril "I guess because it is more private and there is no noise so I can concentrate on my work". And I would have to agree with that too, because sometimes when my sisters are annoying I just go to my room and I can just relax.
Another difference is of course mum did not use any media at school and you don't have to be Einstein's halve brother to figure that reasoning out, because she obviously doesn't go to school at 53 years of age!

Time spent on media

As you can see on the above graph, I spend most of my media usage on my iPhone, this is because I can check my Facebook, and I always go onto Instagram because I  have 8k followers so i probably post a photo about once or twice a day, also Instagram can't be used on a computer, i also use my phone for texting and Snapchat.
Avril spends most of her time on the big Macbook computer, sending emails most of the time and checking and updating things on Facebook, which she likes to check often.
Avril doesn't really watch much TV, the bar is up to 1 hour because all she watches is Greys Anatomy which lasts for 1 hour. My TV is higher because I like to watch more TV than my mum does, but in the week i was doing my log i was a bit busy to sit down and watch TV.
Neither of us listened to the radio this week, we do usually listen to it in the car but this time we did not.
Avril also likes to use her iPhone a lot, she also has an Instagram and she looks at her Facebook and checks her texts and voice calls on it too.

Location of Media Consumption

In this graph I have made, you can clearly see that my mum and I use media in similar places around the home. We both had the same amount of media used in the kitchen in our house, and we are only one hour apart at the Levings School of Dance studios, this is because when my mum has a break or someone else comes in to teach she can use her iPhone, were as I dance mostly every class .And Avril (mum) her highest area of media consumption was in her bedroom, this occurs because that is were her main Mac book Computer is set up, filled with everyone from her schools email addresses, the particular week she was doing her log, she was on the computer a lot sending out plenty of emails and answering about new inquirers to start dancing for term 4, so she was very busy on her computer and her portable Mac book Pro also which is situated mostly in her bedroom.
My highest media consumption was in the lounge room, because not only do i use my iPhone and Mac book in there, but I watch Home And Away in there on the TV, but i usually if I miss it on TV, i watch it on demand on my Mac book air.
Avril obviously does not go to school so she is evidently not going to use any media at school.

Hypothesis

My research is between myself, Felicia Morris-Levings and my mum,Avril Levings.

My prediction is that my mum and I would have similar media usage but we would use it at different times and maybe for different reasons.Because during the day when I am at school I don't really use social media that much because I don't have an efficient Internet supply at school so I would have to use my 3G,and when I do check on-line things I look and send Snapchats, read or update my status on Facebook quickly then I scroll through Instagram afterwards. After schools I dance too so my most used Facebook or any other media site would be between 3-4pm and 9-11pm. And I use Facebook to chat with my friends and to upload photos and to read and update status and liking other peoples things and I also use Instagram a-lot because I have over 7000 followers on there and I update it about once a day.
My mum she would probably use the Internet more during school hours because she starts work at 4pm till 9pm most days  of the week except weekends. So when I am at school she would use the Internet more because she is at home with WiFi and she doesn't have to leave for work till about 3:45pm. Since she is a Dance Teacher she has about  250 pupils to look after, so she has all these emails to send and answer so during her day she would probably use her Mail on her Mac Computer to do so. She also has a Facebook site and an Instagram as-well,  but she defiantly uses Facebook the most to contact dance people and friends and family. My mum has a Instagram and she uses it to post Dance Photos of pupils at her school including me and my friends on there, her page has about 2000 plus followers.

We both do not watch the news, sometimes before school we have the Breakfast show on in the background.None of us read the news paper, so we kind of rely on peoples Facebook status to update us on the news. We also do not really watch that much TV because we don't really have enough time too because we are always so busy, but we both have our favourite TV shows that we watch, mine is Home And Away, and my mum's is Greys Anatomy.
I predict that we would probably use the same amount of Internet through out the week that my mum and I will be keeping a log for, because we are both always on our Computers or iPhones.
